Friends Empowered Self Advocacy Group

We have been successful in bidding for funding to develop our services for the young adults with learning disabilities who attend our 16-25 group on Mondays. The new funding from the Learning Disabilities Development Fund will enable them to develop a self advocacy group.  The group set up a project that allows the group to be member led with the support of a facilitator.  The group meets twice a week to discuss, develop and plan the events they are offering other people with learning disabilities in the borough.  The idea is to consult as many people as possible about particular subject areas. The subject areas are: Healthy Living and Health Action Plans, Housing, Employment, Learning, Crime & Safety and Travel and Transport.   The group will also research the potential for new community led activities such as Yoga & or dance club, a Night club and are particularly keen to be involved in the Learning Disability Partnership Board and work on ways to include more people with learning disabilities in the decision taking process.

The group have named themselves “Friends Empowered” and will be one to look out for in the future!

This group meet on Wednesdays & Thursdays @ 1-4pm.
